H.E. Mr. Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary participated in the High-Level Segment’s General Debate of the annual High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on 17 July. Minister Szijjártó also held bilateral meetings with H.E. Mr. Muhammad Abdul Mannan, Minister of Planning of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, H.E. Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Investments of the Republic of Cuba as well as H.E. Ms. Olga Algayerova, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

Informal meeting of the General Assembly on Combatting Antisemitism and Other Forms of Racism and Hate

6dda14eaced6340bcf92866a316d5d4abeb55844 Upon the initiative of the Permanent Missions of the United States, Canada, Israel and the EU, the President of the General Assembly hosted an informal meeting of the General Assembly on Combatting Antisemitism and Other Forms of Racism and Hate on 26 June 2019. Addressing the event, H.E. Ambassador Katalin Bogyay, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the UN affirmed the Hungarian Government’s zero tolerance policy against anti-Semitism, and underlined the importance of education and prevention on eliminating hate speech and incitement, which target religious minorities around the world.

International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict

b633acfd4624bbd376c8c7fb6a6178e6e96a129a On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, 19 June, the Permanent Mission of Argentina, together with the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) on Sexual Violence in Conflict and the SRSG for Children and Armed Conflict, organized a high-level event at the UN Headquarters. In her statement, H.E. Ambassador Bogyay, Permanent Representative of Hungary underlined the need for comprehensive, personalised support for survivors and their communities to eliminate stigma, foster re-integration, inclusion, which supports healing and builds resilience, with special regard to survivors of violence directed towards members of religious minorities.

Successful Conclusion of the 12th Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)

The 12th Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities took place on 11-13 June, 2019, with the participation of more than thirty high-level State Party representatives and more than 1500 participants altogether. Besides the General Debate and three high-level roundtables, close to hundred side events were held during the Conference. Hungary, as Vice-President and member of the Bureau, has been actively engaged to make the session successful and inclusive.
