Rita Izsák-Ndíaye elected to the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
Members at the 27th meeting of State parties to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination elected today 9 new experts to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) by secret ballot for the term 2018-2021. The election of dr. Rita Izsák-Ndíaye, Hungary’s first time candidate by the third largest number of votes is a great success; a recognition of her professionalism, enthusiasm and extensive knowledge of human rights related issues with special focus on racial discrimination and protection of minorities.
Ambassador Bogyay concluded her work as Chair of the Committee on Conferences
H.E. Ambassador Katalin Bogyay, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations concluded her one-year long chairmanship of the United Nations Committee on Conferences to H.E. Mr. Lewis Brown Ambassador of Liberia. Hungary remains member of the Committee until 2018 and will be represented in the Bureau by Ms. Rita Le Diffard, diplomat at the Hungarian Mission who has been elected as rapporteur today.
Closing event of the 60th Anniversary Memorial Year of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
On June 20, 2017, H.E. Ambassador Katalin Bogyay, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the UN, hosted the closing event of the 60th Anniversary Memorial Year of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. The closing ceremony provided an opportunity to present the newly published book “A CRY FOR FREEDOM: Reflections on the 1956 Hungarian Revolution at the UN and Beyond” as well as the Statues of Remembrance.
International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict
On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, the SRSG on Sexual Violence in Conflict, the SRSG for Children and Armed Conflict, and the Permanent Mission of Argentina to the UN hosted a panel discussion focusing on “Preventing Sexual Violence Crimes through Justice and Deterrence.” In her intervention, Ambassador Katalin Annamária Bogyay, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations, highlighted the importance of accountability, awareness raising, as well as fighting stigmatization related to sexual violence in conflict.
ACT meeting with the Permanent Representative of Japan
Member States of the ACT (Accountability, Coherence and Transparency) Group organized a meeting today at the Permanent Mission of Switzerland with H.E. Mr. Koro Bessho, Permanent Representative of Japan to discuss issues of common interest on the UN’s current agenda, as well as on the lessons learnt from last years’ selection process of the UN Secretary General.
