Members at the 27th meeting of State parties to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination elected today 9 new experts to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) by secret ballot for the term 2018-2021. The election of dr. Rita Izsák-Ndíaye, Hungary’s first time candidate by the third largest number of votes is a great success; a recognition of her professionalism, enthusiasm and extensive knowledge of human rights related issues with special focus on racial discrimination and protection of minorities. 


The nine newly elected independent experts of the Committee, responsible for monitoring the implementation of laws and other measures to improve human rights, for using early-warning and urgent procedure mechanisms to perform monitoring functions, for examining inter-state as well as individual complaints, are the following: Rita Izsák-Ndíaye, (Hungary), Ms. Keiko Ko (Japan), Mr. Amir Noureddine (Algeria), Mr. Gün Kut (Turkey), Mr. Marc Bossuyt (Belgium), dr. Chinsung Chung (Republic of Korea), Mr. Silvio José Albuquerque E Silva (Brazil), Mr. Yeung Kam John Yeung Sik Yuen (Mauritius), Mr. Bakari Sidiki Diaby (Cote D’Ivoire).
